Saddam is dead

Right around 11pm (our time) on December 29th, or about 6am on the 30th in Iraq. They showed Hussein being led to the gallows and the noose being placed on his neck, but Iraqi state TV froze the picture before the actual hanging.

The Taliban and Al Qaeda are already asserting that the Jihad against the United States and it's allies will intensify. Even though he was found guilty and sentanced to death by a court comprised of Iraqi's.

So, I was watching CNN at 3 in the morning... a car bomb was set off in a parking garage at a Madrid airport. Reps from the airport said they got a warning call 45 minutes before the bomb was detinated.

They said this is the M.O. of Baathist separatists. Saddam was the leader of the Baath Party... Coincedence?

The reason why I hate Thanksgiving

A night-time prayer from your Uncle Bill ...

Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined
to be shit out through wholesome
American guts.

Thanks for a continent to despoil
and poison.

Thanks for Indians to provide a
modicum of challenge and
danger.

Thanks for vast herds of bison to
kill and skin leaving the
carcasses to rot.

Thanks for bounties on wolves
and coyotes.

Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through.

Thanks for the KKK.

For nigger-killin' lawmen,
feelin' their notches.

For decent church-goin' women,
with their mean, pinched, bitter,
evil faces.

Thanks for "Kill a Queer for
Christ" stickers.

Thanks for laboratory AIDS.

Thanks for Prohibition and the
war against drugs.

Thanks for a country where
nobody's allowed to mind their
own business.

Thanks for a nation of finks.

Yes, thanks for all the
memories-- all right let's see
your arms!

You always were a headache and
you always were a bore.

Thanks for the last and greatest
betrayal of the last and greatest
of human dreams.

Man... I think I have to finally give up on them.

His voice is gone, and without the growl... there is nothing left. Load and Reload had a couple of good moments (there were 4 or 5 good songs spread over those 2 albums), St. Anger was horrible - and if this is any indication it will be more of the same Bob Rock influenced shit. I held out a glimmer of hope because Rick Rubin is producing the next album. But, I think the king is dead...

Live Rattlesnakes Released In 'Snakes On A Plane' Theater

A couple of teen yahoos decided "wouldn't it be funny if" they released two live rattlesnakes into a theater showing "Snakes on a Plane". These are the future leaders of our country.

And as for SoaP, it wasn't terrible. Ok, yeah, it's a goofy movie, but there were some fun scenes, a couple of quality kills, two (big!) naked breasts, lotsa snake-fu, and Samuel L. Jackson trying to describe a snake over an airphone. "Well, it's kinda brown on top and green on the bottom ..." "Is it an iridescent green?" "No, more olive-y..."

I will say that they did do a bit of snake homework, even if it was only to Google "snake, venom, cure". Too bad they didn't do so much on airplanes ... haven't the writers ever heard of "Mythbusters"?

Updated Descent FAQ at FFG

Get a copy here. Some very interesting rules clarifications. To wit:

  • The overlord player should start with 3 overlord cards and 0 threat tokens.
  • Vitality potions should cost 50 coins, not 25 as listed on page 20 of the Quest Guide.
  • Each hero may only drink 1 potion (of any type) each turn.
  • The overlord can discard cards for threat tokens at any time, even during a hero player’s turn.
  • Heroes can no longer immediately turn in a treasure card from a chest to receive its full value. Instead, they must carry the item back to town and sell it for half value in the town shop.
  • Heroes can only buy treasure cards from the shop if they’ve previously opened at least one chest of that color this game.
  • A hero may give any item to an adjacent hero at the cost of one movement point. A hero may never give money to another hero.
  • [W]henever a hero receives an item from another player or from a chest, he may immediately equip that item, dropping or placing other items in his pack to free up the hands necessary for the just-received item.
  • Monsters can end their movement on or be spawned on to unactivated glyphs, but cannot end their movement on or be spawned on to activated glyphs. If a monster is on an activated glyph, the overlord must move it off the glyph on his next turn. Monsters can always move through or attack into spaces containing glyphs. (Ed: No board lock-outs for you!)
There's some more interesting stuff, including the new diagrams for the Hell Hound's breath attack, that make it worth checking out. These are just the one's that caught my eye. Enjoy!

Midnight Chronicles

Well, this one came out of nowhere. Maybe we'll finally get a D&D movie that won't suck. It looks like something between a made for TV movie and a theatrical release. Sure, its cashing in on the Lord of the Rings movies, but its integrity that matters right now, I think.
If it does well and Fantasy Flight makes some cash I can't wait to see some new $120 board games. ;)

The Official Word on D&D 4.0 .. such as it is.

From a GenCon seminar hosted by WotC:

When asked about the rumors surrounding a coming 4th edition: "We find them very Funny.... WotC does like to hear about what fans want in a new edition as some of the items that are coming out this year are from what fans talked about online a few years ago. When WotC decides to announce the release of a 4th edition we will give trade partners and fans ample time to prepare."
Sounds like the rumors are unfounded ... B.D., you were right. There, I said it. :)

From a different post here:
[Kevin Wilson, D&D Associate Brand Manager] did confirm that there is no work being done in the development of a 4th edition that would force players to use miniatures to play the game. We also confirmed with WotC staff that, at this time, no 4th edition product will be in any Wizards of the Coast's product catalogs through 2007. This would seemingly put an actual product release sometime in 2008.
So I suppose I should break down and buy the damn 3.5 book already... :)

Dragonlance Animated Movie

Most of you know that I'm a big Dragonlance fan. When I heard about an animated movie in the works I was pretty damn excited. I don't know how many times I've wished for something like this since running the War of the Lance modules with Tim Hannon when we were kids. The latest tidbit I found is that Lucy Lawless is voicing Goldmoon. Hm. Ok. Get the Xena-geeks into it, sure. Then, I read this:

**********************
From the Lawless Ink:

"I just did the voice of an animated cartoon for Paramount, called Dragonlance. Obviously it's a fantasy story, with gods and monsters -- (no lesbian subtext). I never felt I nailed animated performance before, so wanted to get a handle on it.

I played a character called "Goldmoon," a Native American. We played around with accents awhile. I didn't know she was Native A till I got there and so didn't have time to research the accent (not many of those where I come from). More staccato! More commanding! More warm! Less disjointed! . . . Ummm, do you just want me to do Xena? Ahh, yes! That's it, do Xena! The voice is perfect! So warm, so commanding, so . . . yeah, yeah, let's get on with it.

It was actually really fun. At last I have done something my friends can actually watch. My son is gratified that I am not playing a bad guy. He can't stand me going to BSG every day to be mean to humans.

Oh well, it's a living!
L
************************************

When the fuck did the Native AMERICANS move to the continent of Ansalon. Fuck. How bad did they screw this shit up?? I'm hoping she was just too retarded to realize that the character she was voicing wasn't actually a Native American.

Well, at least she cleared up for us the fact that it will be an ANIMATED cartoon.

Fuck.

Movie Night Moving?? Multiple Movie Night??

So, I have been thinking of adding a day to the movie night schedule... mondays as well thursdays.

Every Monday night, every Thursday night.

I know a lot of people have plans... especially with Thursday in the Square going on thru the summer.

The time is still the same.
My house at 8:00, movies start at 8:30.

I am thinking of some lighter fare for the next movie night... possibly "Dead and Breakfast".

The more the merrier - so invite you friends, family, co-workers... strippers...

I have a couch that can comfortably seat 3 (well, two and a half anyway), a comfy chair, some folding chairs, and I can move the coffee table if I need to and get some big beanbag chairs for the floor. The strippers can sit on my lap...

I usually have a variety of pepsi products and a beer or twon on hand - but I have no problems with someone bringing booze, pop, or food.

I have movies and a subscription to Netflix... so I will take requests.

Weekly Movie Night

Hey Kids,

There is nothing like sitting down to a nice art film after a hard days work.

So, I present the Weekly Movie Night.

Depending on how it goes in the first few weeks, this may become a permanent feature. My house, Thursdays, 8pm... what could go wrong.

This weeks feature:

In southeast Sicily, a team of archaeologists investagate the ruins of a crypt where heretic nuns had been stoned and crucified by the village people in the 16th century. Soon strange things begin to happen, and Liza, one of the team members, starts to have surreal dreams about the nuns. Then the graphic violence begins, starting with a decapitaion! The answers lie in the ancient crypt of the nuns...

The Black Dossier

Just a cool tidbit for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen fans:

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier is due for the fall and covers the entire secret history of the LoEG. It starts with the first League, goes into the 1950’s, and right now looks to be about 185 pages of story.

As announced prevously it will have different pages in different sections representing different eras, and a 3-D section that Dunbier said is not a gimmick, has real meaning and that Moore uses the effect in a very complex portion of the story that really suits it.

Christina's House

This one is a legitamately good movie. Watched it right after "The Halfway House".

I saw it a few years ago, I always wanted to pick it up...but I forgot/never knew the title. Just shows what a man can do with a little imagination, some lumber, and some circular saw blades.

One of the most quality kills I have ever seen in a movie.

The Best Movie EVAR!!!!!??!?!??!!!

This movie surpasses prison heat on my list of best movies ever made.

Dejected, after watching the sabres fucking loose, I was channel surfing- which usually makes me feel better.

I stumbled my way through the premium channels, hitting the info button on any movie I didnt recognize. Then I saw it. Halfway House.

Now, you all know, I dig wacky nuns... and the adelphia description was something about missing girls and an evil nun. OK. Im interested.

I wept at the perfection of this film. Nudity, Lesbianism, Bondage, Miskatonic goddamn university, the necronomicon (not a necronomicon... THE necronomicon) an animatronic cthulhuey tentacle beast, and more nudity and lesbianism.

As soon as this post is published I am going right to ebay to buy the DVD.

Fer Tom ...

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.
Someday I'm-a gunna run that game ... and the GI Joe one, just for good measure. ;)

Go to Jail. Go Directly to Jail. Do not pass Go.

From rec.humor.funny:

I finally figured out why, after invading both Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush now wants to invade Iran. It's got nothing to do with terrorism, oil, 9/11,Osama, WMDs or nukes.

If he gets all three in a row, he can start building houses and hotels.

David Copperfield Robbed at Gunpoint

I think this is one for the "Bad Idea, Worse Idea" file.

David Copperfield Robbed at Gunpoint

For some reason I find this terrifically funny. FTA, "Copperfield turned his pockets inside out to show he had nothing on him - a sleight of hand by the illusionist, who later showed police he was carrying a passport, wallet and cell phone."

"Well, there's nothing in my pockets, and nothing up my sleeves, but look what's behind your ear! A shiny new quarter! And what's this in the barrel of your gun? Ribbons!! Now, watch, while with just a press of a few buttons, I can make carloads of cops appear!!"

40K RPG Low Down

Black Industries put up a 40K rpg FAQ of sorts to answer some early questions about the game. Bleeding and dying. In the mud. In space. This is gonna kick all kinds of ass. Too bad we have to wait till March '07.

You can't HANDLE the games!!

From a pretty funny thread over at RPG.net:

"Son, we work in an industry that sells games, and those games have to be written by men with pencils. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Matthew? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Rokugan, and you curse d20. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. AEG's death, while tragic, probably sold games. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, sells games. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at game sessions, you want d20 on that book, you need d20 on that book. We use words like market, network, externalities. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent taking over the industry. You use them as a cuss words on RPGnet. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who reads and games under the blanket of the very industry that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a pencil, and write a game. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

We have to try this! :)

So why "Organized Chaos" anyway?

Post #1 in the History of "Us" section:

So where did the name "Organized Chaos" come from, anyway? Well, it all started in about 1992, I believe. Me, Tom, and Dan had known each other for a while, and I had met Chris at R.I.T., and we were trying to get our respective groups together for gaming and related activities. It was ... problematic at best. Scheduling was a bitch, what with school and work and family stuff and so on.

Somebody (I don't remember who) decided that we needed to get more organized and set the group up with a "club" structure, with game scheduling, a library, dues, that sort of shit. (Hey, it sounded like a good idea at the time!) And, of course, any good game club needs a good game club name.

So there's us, The Three Caballeros, trying to figure out a good name for the group. I think Dan quipped at the time, "You know this is all going to devolve into chaos." I responded, "Well, there's nothing wrong with a little chaos ... so long as it's organized."

And there, like a bolt from the blue, it hit me: Organized Chaos. The perfect name for the perfect game club. It would be glorious!

It wasn't. But that's ancient history now, and the only thing that remains is the name. It's not a bad little name; in my gaming career, I've been a member of:

  • Damage, Inc.
  • Rochester Wargamers Association and Guild
  • Role-Playing Gamers Guild
  • and Gamer Scum
I'll take Organized Chaos any day.

Hey, listen up you guys, Kang is talking!

Secret Wars Re-enactment Society

Oh. My. God.

My life now has meaning.

Shadenfreude, thy name is Siembieda!

Palladium books in danger of closing its doors.

"betrayal of trust, theft, and embezzlement has inflicted what we estimate to be $850,000 to 1.3 million dollars in damages to Palladium."
Where the hell did Palladium get $1.3 mil to be damaged?? Does anybody still buy their crap? (Besides Harrington of course ...)
"The truly wonderful Rifts® videogame – Rifts® Promise of Power – was stillborn. The N-Gage platform never took off in North America. That meant the N-Gage and Rifts® Promise of Power would NOT be available on the mass market in the USA and Canada. Finding it anywhere in North America required an act of God. "
Yeah, because nobody could have predicted the N-Gage dying early ...
"The Rifts movie? Stalled. Until Jerry Bruckheimer has a script he loves, the movie can’t get the green light. "
How hard is it to get Bruckheimer to "love" a script?? Just put an explosion on every other page, and you're done!
"There were discussions with a company interested in doing a Rifts® MMOG but it didn’t pan out."
Yeah, the design doc was a nightmare. I mean, the Glitter Boy and Juicer classes started at level 48, while everyone else started as level 2 .... I can't imagine why it was a tough sell.
"Going public with this appeal may very well cost us getting the Robotech® license renewal."
Boo-hoo.

I mean, I do feel for the guy. I know he's put a ton of time and energy into keeping that company running, and the game industry's unstable enough as it is, but man, qwitcherbellyachin'! You could cut that press release by half and probably get more sales out of it. As it is, I'm going to go buy something from another company that I actually think deserves to survive.

Forgive the high snark factor, it's been a rough day.
